Previously from Canada, Jim & Leah Servais are the owners and operators of Academy of Dance & Music. Leah has 36 yrs. of experience, training with The National Ballet of Canada, and performing with them and The Milwaukee Ballet Company. Jim grew up playing different instruments in various orchestras and bands as well as teaching music. They saw a need for a dance & music school on the west side of Albuquerque and it has been well received since opening in the fall of 2007. They offer Ballet, Jazz & Hip Hop dance lessons from age 3 to adult, and private music lessons in guitar, saxophone, clarinet, flute and recorder from age 7 to adult. Small Class Sizes The smaller class sizes allow students to get more individual instruction from teachers, and as a result progress at a faster level than in a large class environment. The smaller class sizes also ensure that the teacher can catch any problems before they turn into bad habits or improper techniques.
Importance Of a Ballet Background
So does it matter if your child takes ballet for only a year or two or three? They may have a later interest in jazz, , tap, modern dance or acting, all of which will benefit from a little grounding in safe, properly taught technique and artistic presentation.So it is also if the pupil has a solid foundation in ballet technique, the poise, posture, strength, and balance will vastly improve their ability to learn new styles of dance. There have been great ballet dancers who were also great modern, tap, or jazz dancers, but seldom have there been great modern dancers, etc., who were not also strong in ballet.

They are conveniently located on the West Side of Albuquerque, NM in the Rio Vista Church of the Nazarene, close to Taylor Ranch, Ventana Ranch & Rio Rancho, with easy access and ample parking. There is a convenient large waiting room for parents. They have a fully equipped studio including a professional performance, non-slip dance floor, barres & full length mirrors. They welcome any families who are interested in either dance or music lessons to call with any questions & come and watch a class.
